The Future of Cybersecurity

Every day, new elements of our society, both in business and in our private lives, are being networked and digitized. Formerly "dumb" devices are becoming "smart" devices. This transformation has many benefits, but also brings enormous risks. The security of these devices, networks, data and our digital infrastructure should be of paramount importance, as the consequences will not only affect our online world, but also our physical world. With the rapid pace of change and the constant threat of an attack or a discovered vulnerability, comprehensive cybersecurity is a fundamental requirement for businesses. It is no longer enough to be reactive; organizations must be proactive with their cybersecurity strategy to stay one step ahead of attackers. The study sheds light on how cybersecurity will evolve in the future and what will be important in 2030. Topics such as a quantum secure strategy including post-quantum encryption, crypto-agility, and quantum key distribution are discussed, as well as the role of artificial intelligence and the impact of regulation and certification frameworks.

This study will encourage readers to take stock of their current IT systems and infrastructure, as well as their vision for their organization over the next 5-10 years, and what it will take to keep them secure and what the consequences of various cyberattacks may be. Cybersecurity should not be viewed as a burden, but rather as an opportunity to provide benefits to one's business beyond security. Security must be the primary focus, but if done right, other benefits can be achieved in addition to cybersecurity.
